Figma now draws icons in your style, not Lucide's.
Since November 5, Figma's agent generates vector icons and illustrations from your own references. It's the first easy way out of the template icons that give AI-built sites away.
Few things make generated sites look alike as fast as icons. Nearly all of them use the same set, Lucide, which ships with shadcn components: the same little house, the same lightning bolt, the same shield with a checkmark. Among the 509 sites in the November study it shows up on 99, and the split says more: 30 of the 63 sloppiest sites have it, against 11 of the 167 cleanest.
Figma shipped two changes this week that touch exactly that: how a page's graphics get drawn, and who draws them.
Icons and illustrations from your own references
According to Figma's release notes for November 5, the agent now generates vector illustrations and icons that are easy to edit, follow your style and can be animated. The details:
- Your references: give it your illustrations as a style reference and it produces more pieces, or on-brand icons, at scale.
- Strokes, not fills: line work comes out as strokes, so you change weight and end caps without redrawing.
- Clean layers: each vector arrives in independent, sensibly grouped layers, ready to animate with Figma Motion.
Figma's help center adds that it's on Starter, Professional, Education, Organization and Enterprise plans, uses Figma AI credits, and can also turn a static image, like a hand-drawn symbol or lettering, into vectors. It warns that complex or low-resolution images may not convert well.
Why this one makes output less generic
A stock icon set doesn't give a site away by being ugly. It gives it away by being everywhere: the same drawing on thousands of sites. This update changes where the drawing comes from. If the reference is yours (a sketch, a brand illustration, the lettering in your logo), the result inherits its line, not the template's.
I'd take this over asking a model for "modern minimalist icons": without a reference, any agent drifts to the average, and the average is Lucide. With one, the average stops being the starting point. And since they come out as strokes in clean layers, you can fix them by hand instead of settling for what you got.
One thing before you generate forty of them: plenty of sections don't need an icon. A grid of three cards with an icon over each heading is slop even when the icons are your own.
Shaders, now for everyone
The other change landed on November 2: shaders (code-generated backgrounds and textures, animated or interactive) are now available to all users, export at up to 4096 pixels and work inside code layers, the feature that turns a design into code within the file. The code layers help page notes that code layers are still in open beta and that shaders inside them only run in Chrome, not in the desktop app.
Here my take flips. A colorful shader moving behind a headline is very easy to add and very hard to justify, and it has everything it needs to become the next purple gradient: something that feels designed while saying nothing about the brand. I wouldn't use one as a generic backdrop. I would when the motion says something about the product.
What I'd do with this today
- Check your site first: Slop Score flags "Stock Lucide icons" when it finds them.
- Gather two or three references that already belong to your brand and use them as the style when you ask Figma's agent for icons.
- Cut the icons that explain nothing before replacing any. Keep the rest few, with the same line weight.
- If you try a shader, look at it with the text on top and on a phone before deciding it stays.
For everything else that makes a generated site look like all the others, see the guide to fixing it.

Frequently asked questions
Can Figma AI make icons in my brand's style?
Yes. Since November 5, 2026, Figma's agent takes your illustrations as a style reference and generates editable vector icons, built from strokes in clean layers. It uses Figma AI credits and is on Starter, Professional, Education, Organization and Enterprise plans.
Why do Lucide icons make my site look AI-generated?
Because they ship with shadcn, the base of most generated sites, and repeat across thousands of pages. In the November study they show up on 30 of the 63 sloppiest sites.
